SEPTEMBER 2020

Let’s gather

From 6 feet & virtually

Let’s kick off being virtually 40 (literally not quite forty) by spending some time together over the weekend leading up to my birthday, September 26-27. (The last gasp for my thirties?)

For those of us in DC, we can responsibly get together! We’ll plan for some socializing—with single household units and from six feet away. We can figure out how to juggle the kids or make them scarce for a little while if need be!

And for those of you not in DC, we can meet up online!

OCTOBER 2020

Decades Panel

Reflections from friends on the journey

Frank Lloyd Wright said, “ The longer I live the more beautiful life becomes.”

In October, we had a panel discussion (yes, I’m celebrating my birthday with a panel): reflections on life at different points along the journey from friends living and thriving in various decades of life, from the 20s to 90s! It was a tremendous conversation, with reflections from all along the spectrum of ages.

Ann, on of the participants, even wrote a blog about it!

OCTOBER 2020

Moroccan cooking lesson

Maybe in 2021 I can actually make the trip to Morocco, but in the meantime, we can learn about Moroccan cooking from a real-live person in Morocco!

Cooking!

On Sunday, October 24, we were connected by the magic of Zoom with a family in Marrakesh who walked us through the cooking of chicken tajine. We had participants from across the country, who all produced variations on the classic Moroccan dish.

NOVEMBER 2020

Wine + Laughs

Many fun times and moments of brilliance have been shared over a glass or two (or a bottle of two) of wine. And when visiting wine-growing regions (from California to Oregon; France to Italy) and doing tastings, I always learn a little something new and appreciate the wine that much more when I return home.

On November 15, we were joined by a sommelier, who taught us some lessons about wines. But he wasn’t just any sommelier; he’s a sommelier-comedian! He had some jokes and lessons for the gathered group. We each prepared by buying three kinds of wine: 1) Sauvignon Blanc, 2) Rhone region; and 3) Cabernet Sauvignon. And instead of mandating a specific bottle, we each had wines from different parts of the world, which Sam was able to tell the differences between.

It was a fun time. But there will be other wine tasting events, so let me know below if you’re interested!

Baaa

On November 27, a group of kids (and their parents and other interested parties), gathered on a Zoom to talk with Angie, who joined us from her farm in Rotorua, New Zealand. She showed us around, introduced us to several baby and adult sheep, and told us about how they make yarn.
